McColl’s Transport has worked closely with Transport Engineering Solutions (TES) for more than a decade, following a long‑standing relationship built on trust, technical expertise, and consistent support.
“Our relationship essentially started when Glenn moved to TES,” explains McColl’s workshop representative. “We followed him because we wanted the same level of support we’d always received, and we’ve continued to get exactly that.”
For McColl’s, reliability and support are critical. Operating tanker and bulk trailers across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, the business requires braking systems that are proven, easy to maintain, and backed by responsive technical assistance.
McColl’s trailers operate in demanding conditions, often with limited space underneath tanker units and strict compliance requirements around braking performance and safety.
When the business began evaluating electronic braking systems, multiple brands were trialled side‑by‑side. While product capability was important, the deciding factor came down to installation simplicity, ongoing support, and ease of maintenance.
“We fitted three different brands to three trailers,” the customer explains. “What won us over wasn’t just the product, it was the support and how easy the whole process was from start to finish with WABCO and TES.”
As trailer technology evolved, McColl’s also needed a future‑ready solution that would simplify retrofits, reduce install time, and support a mixed fleet operating on different voltage platforms.
McColl’s standardised on WABCO Trailer Electronic Braking Systems, starting with TEBS‑E and progressively upgrading to WABCO iEBS with support from TES.
The move to iEBS was driven by several key advantages:
“Installation time has definitely come down,” the customer says. “The fittings, the colour‑coding, the different sizes, it’s almost impossible to connect something incorrectly. That alone saves us a lot of time.”
While the most significant gains have been seen in the workshop, drivers have also noticed improvements with the latest iEBS systems.
“Drivers tell us the brake actuation feels quicker now,” explains the workshop Manager. “There’s minimal delay, it just feels sharper and more responsive.”
From an operational perspective, McColl’s values the added layer of protection iEBS provides, particularly for tanker applications where compliant braking is non‑negotiable.
“If there’s a fault or the trailer isn’t powered correctly, those safety features give us peace of mind until the issue is resolved,” they say.
With positive results from early installations, McColl’s plans to continue upgrading its fleet.
“We’ve got around 35 assets we want to upgrade from ABS and older systems to iEBS,” the customer says. “And moving forward, if an older TEBS unit fails, we’ll just replace it with iEBS.”
The ability to standardise across the fleet, simplify training, and reduce downtime has made iEBS the logical long‑term solution.
For McColl’s, the technology is only part of the equation. The long‑standing partnership with TES, and the support that comes with it, remains the key reason they continue to choose WABCO systems.
“I couldn’t get better support if I tried,” the customer says. “Parts are always available, and Glenn is always available, any day of the week. The support is worth more to me than the cost of the product.”
From same‑day site visits to nationwide parts supply, TES continues to provide the confidence McColl’s needs to keep its fleet moving.
“For me personally and for our business, our relationship with TES couldn’t be better,” the customer concludes. “Ten out of ten.”
